Kitsch – Switch to Bottle-Free Beauty

I have fallen in love with KITSCH vegan shampoo and conditioner bars. They are great for my hair, the planet, and the animals — great vegan beauty products.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hair product graveyard. It is a shelf with partially used bottles of shampoo, conditioners, and styling products that I tried and liked, or not, but shelved when I found something else that I liked better. I suspect that many people have something similar, and I keep meaning to have a discarded beauty product party. Let everyone bring those pesky half-filled bottles to trade or try—for now, I offer them to my sisters or daughter when they visit.

The product graveyard – look familiar?

Anyway, let me tell you about my hair. I have naturally curly hair and don’t color it. I use a hairdryer or a flat iron once in a blue moon. Because I am older now, my hair is a little drier than it used to be, and I live in Florida near the ocean and love the sun and salt water. Plus, we also have a pool in the backyard. So, obviously, we spend a lot of time outside, and I put my hair through a lot of environmental stress! (This is why I am always on the lookout for the next promising product.)

SO Many Products – SO Much Plastic and SO Hard to Find Vegan Beauty Products

We have always tried to limit plastic waste in our houses and have been recycling for years. We’ll even pick glass over plastic containers for things like peanut butter, but let’s face it, we are all still using a lot of plastic stuff. You must be super intentional about making alternative choices if you want to make even a tiny impact.

When my sister told me she had switched to a shampoo bar, I realized that I had never given that a thought. I confess that I never considered the planet on my hair care product quest, and it was time I did.

I actually can’t remember how I came to find out about KITSCH. It may have just shown up in my feed (you know, that creepy feeling you get that social media is reading your mind). But, I immediately liked what I was learning about the company. First of all, it is a women-owned business, plus they have a Buy One/Pull One campaign with 4ocean.

(4ocean is a company committed to ending the ocean plastic crisis and has removed millions of pounds of plastic from the ocean.) For every bar you buy, 4ocean will pull a bottle’s worth of plastic from the sea. Now that’s an effort I want to support!

Let me tell you, I just ordered 2 more bars. It is a great feeling to look at my old products and visualize less plastic trash because of my choice!

Vegan Beauty and Hair Products With Minimal Packaging and NO Plastic

From the start, Kitsch made a great impression. The two bars I ordered came in a plain brown box, just big enough for the products inside. No plastic wrap, no bubble wrap, no styrofoam peanuts. Their stylish minimal packaging is a small box with a paper-wrapped bar inside. Nothing extraneous and no fuss. Love it!

What did I think of the bars? Well, being blonde and having a pool, I picked the Purple Toning Solid Shampoo. It is a gentle and residue-free shampoo, which is precisely what I want. I am way more picky about conditioners, and my choice was the Shea Butter Nourishing Conditioning Bar. The shampoo bar, for me, is terrific. I thought it might be awkward to use, but I found it is easy and fast to get a nice lather going. As for the Conditioning Bar, it absolutely exceeded my expectations. My hair was soft and curly without frizzing up (Florida can be HUMID).

What sold me on the Conditioning Bar was something that I didn’t expect. The directions also suggest using it as a leave-in conditioner. It just so happened that when my bars arrived, I had just learned that my GO TO vegan styling product was on backorder, and I was put on a waitlist (still am). I looked at the half tube I had left and realized I would be rationing it until it was available again. I had the next day off, so I just used the bar as a leave-in conditioner without using any styling product. My hair looked like I had used my styling product. I had soft, frizz-free curls all day. Seriously.

Kitsch is in my bathroom to stay!

So here is why I am writing this: You can have gorgeous hair with a product wrapped in paper inside a paper box. The day you order it, you will have plastic removed from the ocean. You will also be supporting a certified women and minority business. No animals will be harmed.

I am so grateful to have found KITSCH. At Full of Beans, we rarely feel compelled to endorse products. KITSCH is a stand-out exception. Buy it.
